Conor Culver (United States)
Forever intrigued with art's ability to challenge senses of reality, Conor Culver combines photography and digital design to create captivating surrealist images. Born and raised in the colorful state of Colorado, Conor is a graduate of The University of Colorado Denver with a B.F.A. focusing dually on photography and digital design.
Conor was first drawn into the hidden wonders of the sea after earning his scuba certification at the age of 12. His journey with photography began soon after as he began to capture an underwater world; a place that still influences him today. He has photographed underwater life in many places around the world, including the Turks & Caicos Islands, Cayman Islands, Palau, The Dry Tortugas, and Fiji.
After exploring the allure of fine art photography in college, Conor began to blend different images together in the darkroom and experimenting with various methods. His haunting collection 'Characters We Used to Know' and the enchanting 'Underwater Surrealism' highlight the dreamlike realities he creates, using both digital photography and the darkroom.
Conor recently received 1st and 2nd place in the California Oceanside Museum of Art's "Liquid Capture: Masters of Underwater Photography" show in the Submersion Category. At the 21st Annual Louisville National Juried Photography Show in Louisville,CO, Conor won 1st place in the manipulated/HDR category. Then in Rockport Maine, he was selected as a Honorable Mention to the show "Dreams", beating thousands of other artists. His unique process will be published in The Book of Alternative Photographic Processes 3rd Edition by Christopher James. He continues to show throughout Colorado and the United States.
Conor also photographs bands and concerts; he particularly enjoys the challenge of capturing moments and energy during live performances. He currently resides in Golden, CO.
